Notice is hereby given that Union County will conduct a public hearing at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2022. This meeting will be held as a virtual video web and tele conference. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain citizen views and comments on Union County’s proposed use of $2,685,000 in Community Development Block Grant-CARES Competitive (CDBG-CV-C) funds and to receive any comments or grievances regarding the Union County’s CDBG-CV-C grant funds. This meeting is accessible to individuals with disabilities and/or for persons with Limited English Proficiency. Union County proposes to allocate CDBG-CV Competitive grant funds as follows:

  1. Hufnagle Park Outdoor Social Gathering Event Venue $2,500,000
  2. SEDA-COG Admin $135,000
  3. Lewisburg Borough Admin $50,000

Total   $2,685,000

Public testimonials and support are critical for this project to be considered to CDBG-CV-C grant funding. Eligible activities must be for the prevention, preparedness, and response to the COVID-19 crisis. No displacement of any persons is proposed. 100% of the funds will benefit low- to moderate-income residents.

On August 1, 2022, Union County plans to submit an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for Community Development Block Grant-CARES (CDBG-CV) funds. The application documents will be available for public inspection at Union County, 155 N. 15th Street, Lewisburg, Commissioners’ meeting room. In no case shall the County Commissioners disclose any information concerning the financial status of any program participant(s) which may be required to document program eligibility or benefit.  Furthermore, the County Commissioners shall not disclose any information which may, in the opinion of the County Commissioners, be deemed of a confidential nature.

The Union County Commissioners will consider approval of the CDBG-CV-C application submittal at the regular public meeting to be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Union County Government Building, 155 N. 15th Street, Lewisburg, Commissioners’ meeting room.

 No displacement is anticipated, and every effort will be made to avoid or minimize displacement and relocation. Should displacement be required, the applicant is responsible for replacing all low- and moderate-income housing units that are demolished or converted.  At this hearing, Union County will disclose the types and levels of assistance that it would make available if persons were to be displaced by CDBG-funded activities.

Fourth of July Holiday Office, Public Works and Refuse Schedule

The Lewisburg Borough Office and Public Works Department will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2022, to observe the Fourth of July Holiday.  Refuse normally picked up on Monday, will be picked up on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, and refuse normally picked up on Tuesday, will be picked up on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, along with refuse normally picked up on Wednesday.

Borough Office access restricted on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm.

The Borough’s Public Works crew will be sealing the rear deck and ramp used for public access to the Borough Office. Borough staff will still be available on Friday afternoon to assist you via phone. Feel free to call us at 570-523-3614. If you need to drop off something at the Borough Office, please use the silver box attached to the building on the South Fifth Street side. Normal access to the Borough Office will resume at 8:00 am on Monday, June 20, 2022.

FULL-TIME PARKING METER ATTENDANT/CLERK

The Borough of Lewisburg is accepting applications for a full-time Parking Meter Attendant/Clerk.  This employee serves as the Borough’s Parking Enforcement Officer and is responsible for all aspects of parking enforcement in our metered spaces and municipal parking lots.  The employee will typically work 40 hours per week on a Monday – Friday or Tuesday – Saturday schedule as determined by the Borough Manager.  The anticipated employee starting date for this position is Monday, July 18, 2022.  Applications can be obtained from the Borough Office, 55 South Fifth Street, Lewisburg, PA  17837.  Previous parking meter enforcement or law enforcement experience is preferred, but not required.  Experience working in the public sector or municipal government is a plus.  Position requires the ability to follow written/oral instructions, perform a variety of manual tasks associated with parking enforcement and coin collection, walking up to eight (8) miles per day on enforcement rounds often under adverse weather conditions, pushing a 150 – 200 pound coin collection cart over sidewalks and roadways, and representing the Borough in court appearances associated with parking meter violations.  A valid driver’s license is required.  This is a full-time position with benefits as defined by a union contract.  Wages during the 90-day probationary period are $17.95/hour per the union contract.  Upon successful completion of the probationary period, wages will be $23.05/hour in 2022.  Applications will be accepted until the close of business on Friday, June 17, 2022.  Applications can be sent via mail, dropped off at the address noted above, or sent by email to: office@lewisburgborough.org.

LEWISBURG BOROUGH COUNCIL FOURTH WARD VACANCY NOTICE

Lewisburg Borough is announcing a vacancy on Borough Council in our Fourth Ward.  In general, the Lewisburg Borough Fourth Ward consists of areas in the Borough located west of U.S. Route 15 and areas located north of St. Anthony Street on the east side of U.S. Route 15.  To be considered for a position on Borough Council representing the Fourth Ward, you must:

  • be a registered elector of Lewisburg Borough;
  • have resided in Lewisburg Borough continuously for at least one year immediately prior to the appointment;
  • be a current resident of the Fourth Ward in Lewisburg Borough;
  • not be a school board member, a trustee of a charter school, or an employee of Lewisburg Borough;
  • not hold more than one elective Borough office at the same time;
  • submit an affidavit of residency to the Borough Secretary prior to being sworn in as an elected official.
