The Borough of Lewisburg is accepting applications for the following position:

Temporary, Full-time Laborer I in the Public Works Department

The Temporary, Full-time Laborer I employee will work in our Public Works Department.  The employee will typically work 40 hours per week Monday – Friday from 6:30 am – 3:00 pm with occasional weekend hours and weather emergency work required.  The successful applicant must have and maintain a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator’s License during the term of employment.  Experience working in the public sector or municipal government a plus.  Position requires the ability to follow written/oral instructions, perform a variety of manual tasks, perform heavy, repetitive, manual labor for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions with random alcohol/drug-testing a requirement.  This is a temporary, full-time position with benefits as defined by a union contract.  Wages during the 90-day probationary period are $19.45/hour per the union contract.  Upon successful completion of the probationary period, wages will be $24.03/hour for Temporary Laborer I per the union contract.  The term of employment is expected to begin as soon as possible and end on Friday, October 25, 2024.

Laborer I II Temp Laborer I Public Works-Refuse Job Description

Borough residents are encouraged to participate in the annual spring (brush, tree trimmings and leaves) pick-up scheduled for the week of April 8th through the 12th.

The Borough Public Works Department will be following the daily street maintenance schedule in its efforts to collect brush, tree trimmings and leaves.  These materials will only be collected on the day the street is posted for no parking from 7 AM to Noon, and any subsequent debris left unattended will be considered litter.

Tree limbs and tree debris should be no larger than 2 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length.  It should be placed between the curb and the sidewalk where appropriate.  Leaves should be managed in the same manner as fall collection (placed in the gutter along the street) and not co-mingled with limbs and brush.

The Borough hopes this annual spring pick-up will help alleviate the hassle of collecting the material individually and having to schedule with the municipal brush pile times of operation.  (Brush pile times of operation: Wednesdays 8 AM to 4 PM and Saturdays 8 AM to Noon.)

January 5, 2024 – Lewisburg Borough Special Weather Statement

With plowable winter precipitation forecast for Saturday, January 6, 2024 into Sunday, January 7, 2024, Lewisburg Borough would like to remind all residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors to be safe over this weekend.  If you need to travel in Lewisburg Borough (or elsewhere), please watch carefully for crews clearing streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.  Although timing of the winter storm will dictate our response schedule, the Lewisburg Borough Public Works crew expects to be on the roads beginning early Saturday afternoon for winter weather related activities.

Depending upon the actual amount of snow received, Lewisburg Borough may haul snow from Borough streets beginning early Monday morning on January 8, 2024.  This determination will be made by Borough staff on Sunday and an announcement will be placed on the Lewisburg Borough Facebook page as soon as possible with details.  If the Borough does haul snow next week, our street parking restrictions will be strictly enforced by the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department.  Any vehicles violating the “No Parking” requirements will be ticketed and towed to safely facilitate snow removal.  If street snow hauling is needed with this storm, we anticipate snow removal from Market Street on either Monday, January 8, 2024 or Tuesday, January 9, 2024 between the hours of 12:01 am and 7:00 am.  Snow removal of other Borough streets will follow the normal street cleaning schedule between the hours of 7:00 am and noon each day.  Streets must remain clear of parked vehicles for the entire posted “No Parking” times as our crew may be making multiple passes to remove the snow.

Property owners are also reminded that Borough Ordinances require the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks within 12 hours of the end of the winter precipitation.
