FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 1, 2023
Borough of Lewisburg to use mass emergency notification system called CodeRED
Lewisburg, PA – On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, The Borough of Lewisburg will begin allowing residents and stakeholders of the borough to sign-up to receive emergency and non-emergency notifications through a system called CodeRED. The CodeRED system will serve as the backbone of Lewisburg Borough’s emergency planning and communications outreach to both citizens and staff. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, emails, and posts to social media channels to inform residents to better protect life and property. The service is designed to reach anyone, anywhere, anytime, with any device over any type of connection—ensuring fast, effective, delivery when needed the most.
According to Shannon Berkey, Lewisburg Borough Community Development Grant Manager, “Implementation of the notification system called CodeRED is just part of what Lewisburg Borough officials are doing to make sure people within the municipal boundaries can receive information in times of emergency. An emergency siren system is also being installed and implemented in the coming months.” Both CodeRED and the emergency siren system are being financed with Community Development Block Grant Program Funds administered by PA Department of Community and Economic Development. Lewisburg Borough Emergency Management Coordinator, Steven Beattie said, “CodeRED’s robust notification system will provide borough officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies. We are eager to use this innovative technology to enhance our emergency preparedness plans.” Lewisburg officials anticipate using the system to notify residents of street closures, emergency weather warnings and most importantly flooding notices. Borough officials will test this new system on April 25th.
Lewisburg Borough residents are encouraged to sign up now by visiting the Borough website at www.lewisburgborough.org and clicking on the link under the CodeRed logo to enroll their contact information including land line numbers, cell phone numbers, and email addresses.
